Toshiba to Add Personnel to Strengthen Global R&D

Toshiba announced on July 10, 2012 that the company plans to increase the number of staff at its R&D centers outside Japan in a bid to strengthen its international R&D organization, according to a report by the Japan Today. Toshiba projects to add additional 750 staff by the end of fiscal year 2014. Toshiba said that the newly-hired employees will be responsible mainly for software development for social infrastructure, product development for emerging economies, and supporting the company's global expansion. It is reported that Toshiba will invest 1,080 billion yen (US$13.62 billion; US$1=79.3 yen) in R&D expenditure during fiscal year 2010 to 2014.
